This is not a story about saying goodbye, but about life. At the palliative care unit of AZ Sint-Lucas, they ensure that the end is not overshadowed by death. In this respectful portrait video, we highlight the beauty that is created in these last days, however many there may be left.
No ordinary hospital ward
The warm and serene atmosphere in the ward is thanks to the people who work there day in, day out. We asked a geriatrician, a nurse, and a volunteer to share their experiences. This is more than just a job for them; they give people peace of mind and the space to enjoy time with their loved ones.
Filmed with care
Gentle images and caring stories provide an honest but also hopeful insight into a place where life does not stop, but slows down. The closeness is palpable, as was the gratitude of AZ Sint-Lucas.
Bird's-eye view
We went to AZ Sint-Lucas with a compact crew, but received some surprising reinforcement there. Filip, the parrot who has been watching over the palliative care unit and its patients for 20 years, offered his unfiltered commentary from the sidelines.
