Stop killing albino's
About 3 years ago, fate brought us together ...

Together with my good friend and cameraman Maarten De Clercq we went looking for a charity with the intention to make a short documentary about this during our vacation.
We ended up at Inside The Same. An organisation in the Netherlands that tries to promote the welfare of children with albinism in Tanzania. Gabrielle, the face behind this organization, brought us in contact with Josephat Torner who would help us on the spot in telling this story.

After a week of lobbying with Josephat and fighting against the bureaucracy, we got permission to film (for only 2 hours) in the protectorate/camp Buhangija in the village of Shinyanga.
Without Josephat we would never have been able to take a look behind these scenes. His patience and fire to fight for this cause will stay with me forever.

A camp where children were left behind for their own safety with the intention to protect them from the outside world. In various areas in Africa, such as Burundi and Tanzania, people attribute magical powers to albinos. Which leads to murder and the sale of body parts.

On April 13th 2020, fate struck. Josephat was struck by a vehicle whilst crossing a busy street in Mwanza at around 7pm yesterday evening, the accident was fatal.

RIP my friend ...
In 2017 is de crew van FilmFolie afgereisd naar Tanzania met als doel het maken van een film voor onze stichting. Omdat zij daadwerkelijk met eigen ogen hebben gezien en hebben gevoeld welk leed er gemoeid gaat met het leven van iemand met albinisme in Tanzania, hebben zij voor Inside The Same een mooie film gemaakt. In deze korte film vertelt activist Josephat Torner, een man met albinisme, over zijn leven en over onze stichting.
Dankzij deze film hebben wij veel mensen kunnen laten zien wat het inhoud als je geboren word met albinisme in Tanzania, welk bijgeloof er heerst en wat wij als stichting doen om te helpen.
Wij zijn FilmFolie dankbaar voor deze film en de inzet die ze hebben gedaan onze stichting te steunen.
